From decommissioned Nazi hangars in Berlin to street kids in Mozambique to a goldmine in Ecuador, recent films for BBC World News have seen a collaboration with presenter Leo Johnson for the strand One Square Mile, in which the ability to tell a visual story efficiently in 23 minutes is crucial. My speciality is catching the moments that make great documentary as they happen and using them to tell a story.
A trained journalist with the ability to find and and tell the story quickly while getting the best out of people on camera, I have made documentaries in over 100 countries in the last 15 years. Clients include BBC World News, Euronews and independent production companies Fenris Film & Multimedia ApS in Denmark and Dev.tv in Switzerland. For ten years I have worked as a freelance director with One Planet Pictures in London.
I began my career in journalism as a reporter with National News Press Agency before joining Channel One London as a videojournalist. After freelancing regularly as a producer at London Tonight, I began working as a producer/director on factual series and documentaries at ITN Productions, where I made my first 60-minute documentary about marine research in the Indian Ocean for Discovery Networks Europe and a series of documentary shorts about homelessness worldwide, broadcast on BBC World News.
More environmentally focused work followed with a series producer role on Earth Report – Hands On, for BBC World News, then a series about the economics of conservation, Nature Inc. From 2006 – 2011, I series-produced six series of World Challenge, the flagship sustainable business competition for BBC World News, sponsored by Shell.
